An Efficient Icon

There are a number of vehicles that have built a brand and, in so doing, have become iconic. The Toyota Corolla is one of those. Making its debut in America in 1969, the Corolla quickly became a hit with drivers who wanted a smaller, more economical vehicle with exceptional fuel economy. Soon, drivers would discover other Toyota models, but it was the Corolla that got things started. Now in its twelfth generation, the Toyota Corolla continues to offer drivers great fuel savings and convenient drivability in a compact and sporty model.

No matter whether you choose a Corolla Sedan, Corolla Hatchback, or Corolla Cross, you will get the type of vehicle you need to meet the challenges of driving in the Bronx. The compact design will make parking by the Grand Concourse a lot less of a headache. The standard Toyota Safety Sense suite of active driver assistance features will help you watch out for reckless drivers leaving Yankee Stadium after a game. Meanwhile, the Corolla’s great fuel economy will help you burn less gas sitting in traffic, and the Toyota Audio Multimedia, with its eight-inch color touchscreen, will keep you connected and entertained.

Toyota Corolla Sedan

The most conventional variant of the 2024 Corolla is the sedan. This compact four-door has plenty of room for up to five passengers. In fact, the back seat of the Toyota Corolla has a very roomy 34.8 inches of legroom.

Toyota offers four different trim levels on the Corolla Sedan, ranging from the base LE and SE to the Nightshade and XSE. Each has a sporty design and a very comfortable interior filled with convenience you and your passengers are sure to enjoy. The Toyota Corolla Sedan is also the most affordable variant, making it perfect for anyone who wants a great package of standard features.

The 2024 Corolla Sedan comes with two different available powertrains. The standard 2.0L I-4 gas engine has a continuously variable transmission and produces 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. When you choose the Corolla Sedan with this engine, you will get a very economical EPA-estimated fuel economy of 35 MPG combined.

There is also a 1.8L I-4 hybrid powertrain with an eCVT. This adds an electric motor powered by a small battery to help propel the Corolla Sedan alongside the gas engine. This delivers an incredible EPA-estimated fuel economy of 50 MPG combined. The Corolla Sedan Hybrid is also available with all-wheel drive to provide improved traction. This will come in handy if you live in a part of the Bronx that gets more than its fair share of snow. Best of all, the all-wheel drive version will still give a very impressive 48 MPG combined.

Toyota Corolla Hatchback

If you lead an active lifestyle, then the 2024 Toyota Corolla Hatchback may be the one for you. This replaces the conventional trunk on the Corolla Sedan, which has 13.1 cu.ft. of cargo space, with a very convenient hatchback. This opens up a very spacious 17.8 cu.ft. of space for your belongings, making it a great choice for a parent with students or someone who wants to be able to use their Corolla for work purposes. The Corolla Hatchback has room for up to five passengers, with 42 inches of legroom in front and 29.9 inches in back.

Toyota offers two different powertrains for the 2024 Corolla Hatchback. The SE, Nightshade, and XSE feature a 2.0L I-4 gas engine that comes with a CVT and front-wheel drive. This is the same engine featured in conventional gas engine models of the Corolla Sedan, making it an ideal choice for economically minded Bronx drivers. Meanwhile, the 2024 GR Corolla is a sportier version of this vehicle. Equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged I-3 gas engine and a six-speed manual transmission, the all-wheel drive GR Corolla produces an insane 300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. If you have a need for speed, you should get behind the wheel of one of the three trims of the GR Corolla.

Toyota Corolla Cross

The newest member of the Corolla family is a subcompact SUV. The Toyota Corolla Cross gives you more cargo space and higher ground clearance than either of the other Corolla models. In fact, you get 8.1 inches of ground clearance in the 2024 Corolla Cross, making it great for getting through, up, and over the bumps and potholes that seem to plague so many parts of New York City.

Like the other Corolla models, the Corolla Cross has room for up to five passengers. The back seat splits the difference between the sedan and hatchback, providing 32 inches of legroom so everyone can stretch out on trips to the New York Botanical Garden or the Bronx Zoo. There is also plenty of trunk space, with a voluminous 25.5 cu.ft. that can be expanded to 66.8 cu.ft. of space by simply folding down the rear row of seats.

Toyota offers the Corolla Cross in seven different trim levels. Three of them––the L, LE, and XLE––feature a 2.0L I-4 with a CVT. This is the same conventional gas engine offered on other Corolla models, except drivers can choose front-wheel drive for better fuel economy or all-wheel drive for improved traction. Whichever you choose, you will get very good gas mileage from the 2024 Corolla Cross, with front-wheel drive models getting an estimated 32 MPG combined and all-wheel drive giving you 30 MPG combined.

The other four trims are all hybrids. These are the S, SE, Nightshade, and XSE. They come equipped with a 2.0L I-4 engine with an eCVT that delivers a robust 196 hp. Unlike the conventional gas Corolla Cross models, the hybrids are all-wheel drive standard. By combining a conventional gas engine with a pair of electric motors powered by a battery pack, you are able to reduce your Corolla Cross’s fuel consumption.

At lower speeds, the Corolla Cross Hybrid runs primarily on electric power, with the gas engine helping to keep the battery pack charged. At higher speeds, you get a blend of the two. This results in a very impressive estimated fuel economy of 42 MPG combined and an incredible 45 MPG in the city. This makes it a perfect model for Bronx drivers who want a small SUV that won’t guzzle gasoline while they handle the local city roads.
